There is a point in our lives when we realize something is wrong. It can be subtle or obvious, but it is there. Our experiences and beliefs stop making sense and we begin to question the purpose of our own lives.
For me, this happened sometime in June 2004. It was a normal summer day in the midwest, and I was doing everything right. I was working full-time, putting my husband through school, taking online classes to finish my degree, and supporting us all – including my 3-year-old daughter.
I was crossing the street (in the crosswalk – I told you I was a good girl) from getting a morning latte when an F150 white truck turned a corner, ran me over, and continued on down the street as if nothing had happened. I was somehow stuck underneath and was being drug down Grand Avenue.
Some girls on the sidewalk saw it all, and ran after the truck to tell him to stop. Angels are on earth you know. I remember nothing until early the next morning. I remember waking up in the hospital and not being able to figure out why the bathroom wasn’t in the right place. Head injuries are funny you know.
Sometime later that morning, I awoke again and somehow had an overwhelming sense of peace. I cannot explain it, but I simply knew that this was part of my journey and that I was on the right path. I felt it in my bones – even as words escaped me.
Thus began my journey into self-acceptance and spiritual growth. Along the way I was fired from my job while pregnant and became intimately acquainted with the isolation stay-at-home moms feel after leaving their job and dedicating most of their existence to their children.
I failed at two home-party style businesses, went to Feng Shui and Soul Coaching school, and then promptly ran my first wellness business into the ground. Life is really hilarious some times – truly. Ha!
I am beginning again with Peaceful Mommas. I know that this is exactly what I am supposed to be doing at this moment, and I have peace.
